Best Beaches Near Marrakech: Real Drive Times & Which to Pick
MApar marrakeshexpresstour 2 min de lecture

Which beach is actually reachable from Marrakech, and how long it takes — from a 2.5-hour Essaouira day trip to a longer overnight south.
Morocco has beaches on two coastlines, but if you’re based in Marrakech, drive time is what actually decides your options. Here’s what’s realistically reachable, closest first.
Essaouira — the easiest real day trip (~2.5-3 hours)
The closest genuine beach escape from Marrakech, and the only one on this list with a dedicated tour: our Essaouira day trip. Steady Atlantic winds make it one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in the country, alongside a walkable coastal medina.
Sidi Kaouki — quieter, just past Essaouira (~3 hours)
A calmer alternative a short drive south of Essaouira — fewer crowds, still good wind for surfing, horse and camel rides along the sand. Easy to combine with an Essaouira trip if you have a full day.
Agadir — best for families (~3 hours)
Long, calm, golden-sand beach with a modern promenade — the most resort-like, straightforward option, good for swimming rather than surfing.
Taghazout — Morocco’s surf capital (~3-3.5 hours)
A former fishing village turned into the country’s best-known surf town — surf schools for beginners, a genuine surf-and-yoga culture, close to Agadir.
Oualidia — for the food, not the waves (~3-3.5 hours)
A calm, protected lagoon safe for swimming and paddleboarding, best known for its oyster farms and seafood restaurants right on the water.
Legzira — worth an overnight, not a day trip (~4-4.5 hours)
Dramatic red cliffs and rock formations south of Agadir (the largest natural arch collapsed in 2016, but the coastline is still striking). At this distance, plan it as part of a longer south-coast trip rather than a single day from Marrakech.
Further afield: Dalia and Saïdia
Both genuinely beautiful — Dalia near Tangier on the Mediterranean, Saïdia further east near the Algerian border — but both are 7+ hours from Marrakech by road. Worth knowing about if your trip includes the north separately, not as a Marrakech-based option.
When to go
May through October for warm swimming weather; autumn and winter bring the best, most consistent surf on the Atlantic coast. See our full seasonal guide for how this lines up with the rest of a Morocco trip.
